Do You Have a Rooster in Your Life?

Posted Jan 06 2012 9:48am

We all know that the rooster gets things up and running on the farm.  The rooster, for many, serves as the alarm clock for the farm.  We know how important rest is for health and well-being, but what about rest for the our emotional or spiritual lives?  How does this play into your plan for health and healing?

In thinking about the role of the rooster, let’s expand it to your own life?  Do you have, a proverbial, rooster in your life?  What exactly does that mean?  It means do you have something or someone who will wake you up to the life you have?  It’s not uncommon following the diagnosis of a chronic or life-altering illness to have life become dormant.  Following a diagnosis, aside from treatment, many decide to hibernate emotionally and spiritually because the sense of overwhelm is too great.

If you want to live the best life possible with your health challenge; how will you wake up to the reality of your life?  What will it take to jostle you from a space of complacency, and enter a place of exuberance.  I know some of you may say that your prognosis isn’t good so what’s the point.  My gut reaction is why rob yourself of the possibilities any amount of life has to offer.  Isn’t that the reason people create bucket lists?  So do you have a bucket list and what do the things on your bucket list bring to your life?

There’s that saying, “Wake up and smell the coffee”, and as good as that sounds, it’s actually quite profound.   It’s time to engage.  Your diagnosis is a wake-up call, so don’t hit snooze.  Your diagnosis provides the opportunity for a new type of wisdom that can only come when you are open to possibility.  It’s an opportunity to deepen your emotional and spiritual self-knowing.  This is what brings peace to us as we grapple with the confusion, anger, and resolve that comes with a health crisis.

Do you want to wake up?  What will get you up and going?
