5 Compelling Reasons Why You Need to Have a Vision

“The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but has no vision.” Helen Keller
Put simply, visioning is about how you would like things to be. As the mind thinks in terms of pictures, visioning often involves having a mental image of your desired end result. The mental image is used as a powerful guide, by which you undertake physical actions towards manifesting it. Instead of imagery, some individuals and corporations use vision statements to describe their long-term goals.
I remember a time when I had no vision. Because I had no idea how important it was to have one, I found myself constantly straying away from any original plan or set targets. Round and round in circles I would go. I barely made solid progress.
Later on, I realized that visioning is more than just setting a bunch of numeric goals or targets to meet. It does not matter even if our ideal end state looks a little hazy from our current position when we begin. What matters is that we start to envision and clarify our ideal future picture.
Don’t have a vision right now? Here are 5 reasons why you need one:
1. Helps You With Greater Self-Awareness
At one stage, I was inflicted with the “disease of the shiny object”. I would go from one shiny object to another. I eventually found out that all that glitters is not gold. And what the true gold really is. (Read my book, Abundance Alchemy: Journey of Gold).
Once I found out that the answers to designing a full life lies from within, I stopped the search outside. I started to look within.
I found out that visioning is an authentic self-discovery process that leads to connecting with your inner power. You learn about your strengths and weaknesses. Thus, you become better able to bring forward your future self in its highest potential. It is how you can manifest a life of love and happiness.
2. Helps Create Focus
Visioning creates focus. You are reminded over and over again what is the end that you would like to achieve. Hence, you are likely to get distracted. It was exactly what happened to me. Once I make the intent to align with an authentic vision, I stopped getting distracted.
I believe I am 95% healed from the “shiny object disease”. To say that I am 100% cured, I will be lying. For every once in a while, it would strike in the form of greed and envy. The good thing is that once I am reminded of my vision again, I will be back on course with renewed energy. I am more willing to release my attachments, and focus on what is truly important. And I find that I stray out less and less from my chosen path.
While I may already know what the advice would be, I am very grateful for reminders. Reminders can come from looking at my vision board, a conversation over tea with my husband, through an inspirational message that got shared on Facebook or reading a blog post from my blogger friends (such as Rob from Mind Adventure , Angela from Powered by Intuition , Evita from Evolving Beings , Tess from The Bold Life and many many more). It is wonderful to receive support!
3. Helps You Through Challenging Times
Just because you have a vision or already know what your life purpose is does not take away the fact that there will be days when life or work feels challenging. Even as much as you love your life or work, you can still experience stress and anxiety.
While having a vision will not help prevent negative emotions, it can help you weather through the tough times. You will be in much less struggle to keep up with the vision. It is easier to find the fun in your life again and a reason to remain inspired with the work that you are doing. Rather than be derailed by challenges, you are able to get back on your feet much faster because of the longer-term vision that you have.
4. Helps You Clarify Your Ideal Picture
If you don’t start thinking about your vision, it is possible that you will not get round to clarifying what your ideal picture looks like. Thus, you will be living life without an aim or purpose. You can start to feel as if life has no meaning and lose your motivation to grow or evolve.
What you see in your mind, you materialize in the world. So if you want your reality to change, then you will have to begin forming the ideal picture mentally. This picture has to connect with your heart. It is your true desire that has the most magnetizing power; which then activates the Law of Attraction accordingly.
5. Fills You with Purpose
Vision often involves connecting your passion with higher meaning. In many cases, passion leads you to finding purpose. You do what you love. And you love what you do. You know why you are doing what you are doing. You embody the spiritual message of divine love in your work.
Having a purpose makes you come alive. Life becomes rich in its meaning for you. You see life as a tapestry of beautifully woven threads and you are the crafter, the weaver and the artist. You do the best that you can do. And life responds with its very best.
Visioning Increases Your Chances of Success
“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.”
— Henry David Thoreau
Where focused attention goes, energy flows. Ultimately, your vision becomes energized with greater power when you put more of your attention on your ideal mental picture and take appropriate and inspired actions to bring it about. You are congruent at the level of mind, body and spirit. With an end in mind, you are more likely to achieve success.
