It’s Official. I’m Retired!

Posted Mar 13 2011 9:11am

My first office as production manager of the NIH Radio News Service in 2005.

At the stroke of midnight this morning, I went from a pay status to the retired rolls.

The next order of business will be to do what I can to get my Social Security Benefits started.  Shouldn’t be a problem.  I’ll re-send everything I sent before along with the letter I got Friday from OPM with this relevant statement…

“In reviewing your medical records we have found you to be disabled for your position as a Writer doe to Advanced stage of Idiopathic Parkinson ‘s Disease.”

I need to withdraw my funds from the TSP that I have been pretty much ignoring… between that and the unused annual leave that will show up in one future paycheck or another, we might have close to enough to pay off the car, which will eliminate $582 from our monthly outgo.

I’ve already sent forms to OPM proving that I had filed, but was turned down for SSDI .  Now I have to do it again, and this time, cuz I’m no longer on a work status, it should go through.

But many and mysterious are the ways of the government.

I know.

I used to work for ‘em!
