For the past week, actually since Tuesday, I’ve had a monster of a head cold . But I can’t just GO to a drug store , grab a bottle of Dristan and take it.
Noooooooo!
First I have to do a GOOGLE to see which of my various pharmacopeia of Parkinson’s disease, hypertension, depression and dementia medications might cause this otherwise harmless over-the-counter drug to KILL me.
You get conflicting information on the internet. One site says dextromethorphan , an active ingredient in Dayquil and Nyquil , might kill me because I take Zoloft and the combination of the two might cause something called “ serotonin syndrome ” in which my brainstem would melt and I’d spin around and around and around real fast until I die. Unless I read that wrong. Other sites say, “Go ahead, take the dextromethorphan! What do WE care?”
So now, on day 5 of a head cold that has made my face feel like my cheek bones are going to blow right off my face in a shower of blood and tissue and snot, I’m going to to the store to get some Afrin. It says right on their website and other websites that Afrin will not interfere with my Parkinson’s medications.
So if I drop dead… someone please sue the manufacturer on my behalf. Thank you.
