Women’s Ministry Ideas

Posted May 09 2011 11:48pm

I don’t know why but I thought I’d share a few things we are doing in our women’s ministry at our church right now. I’ve shared with you about our Mugs and Muffins which we learned about from Kelly’s Korner . It’s where you bring your own mug and we provide the coffee, muffins and a speaker.  Our first time doing this will be this Saturday and I’m super excited about it. A few other things we’re doing is a once a month Busy Mom’s Night Out where the young busy Moms of the church come together for a night of just hanging with each other. We’ve met at a local coffee shop for cards and coffee. One time we watched a dvd of Anita Renfro which was hysterical and then shared “blond Mommy moments” which was hilarious. The all time favorite blond mommy moment was when a Mom was placing her newborn son in the arms of the long time veteran nursery worker. The Mom noticed that a hair was on the baby’s blanket and went to pull the hair off when she realized it was attached the nursery worker’s chin! This happened like 20 years ago and she shared it for the first time that night….she had been in denial for that long. Ha! Oh my word, can you even imagine. We laughed so hard. It was just a fun time together. Our Busy Mom’s future plans include a coupon class, dinner and movie, Louie Gigleo: Indescribable, For Women Only Interview: w/ Shaunti Feldhahn & Andy Stanley. We meet for two hours and move the location around each month. An email list and bulletin announcement pretty much covers it and so far we’ve really had a great time with it. Bunches of Lunch is another laid back, but on purpose, ministry outlet we’re working towards. It’s where a specific group of women (women’s ministry team, sunday school class, etc) individually commit to taking one person to lunch or coffee once a month for three months. You invite a different person each month to lunch for the sole purpose of just getting to know them better. Nothing hugely spiritual really. Not sharing your testimony or engaging in Bible Study unless God leads it there. It’s designed to just get to know someone better and on purpose. We spend some time praying and asking God to show us “who” to invite and then we ask.  At the end of the three months  all the people who have participated and their “three people” come together for a luncheon where we talk about  relationships and how they start with simply getting to know someone a little better than you did before. Bible Study options are still being determined but we’re looking at a short four week study this summer. We just noticed a new stand alone study series by Priscilla Shirer called Seeds that we might introduce. Finding that balance of not overwhelming homework yet something that keeps you in the Word during the week can be hard at times. I’m always impressed at what Lifeway offers and many Bible Study leaders are producing shorter studies with moderate homework. And I like this. I am a huge fan of six week studies vs 12 weeks. But I have to say that I’m longing for a good in depth Precept Study by Kay Arthur right now. I have learned the most from her studies than all my studies put together. But it’s extremely time consuming and it’s just not the season for me to be able to do that right now. My prayer though is that I will know when this season is up and not use that as an excuse all the days of my life. I’m pretty sure I’ll know when my four year old is not at home with me all day long. Smile We also have some great outreach projects going on at our church through the Women’s Missionary Fellowship. This group has been supporting local ministries in our area for a long time and coordinating special projects. The last meeting we got to hear from the director of our battered women’s shelter in our area. We brought in paper goods for them and heard about their organization. It was really sobering to hear what goes on all around us in terms of domestic violence in our county. These are a few things we feel God has led us to pursue and are praying He will use for His purposes for our church and community. We’re along for the ride!

So what are you enjoying in the women’s department at your church right now? Would love to hear.
