"So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man." Genesis 2:21-22
I spent this morning on the phone with one of my BFF's, Paula, and we got to talking about things going on in our lives......kids, husbands, brothers, bosses, etc......you get it....all the men in our lives! We were trying to figure out why it is that communication is so darn frustrating with men. There are times when I have tried to desperately communicate something to either my husband or my son - even had them repeat it back to me (in their own words) to make sure they understood what I was saying.....and even though it seems that they understood what I was trying to share with them.....it does not seem to stick. Paula was talking about an argument she had with her brother. He appeared to understand what she was sharing with him....but, he kept telling her that he did not understand why she was so upset.....I laughed when she said that she looked at him and said, "You have to be kidding me?".
As we continued this conversation I wondered (out loud, of course) if maybe the communication part of the men in our lives was imbedded in the one rib that God took from Adam to create us girls! Paula and I just began busting out laughing at the same time......that would explain alot, huh?
Nancy and I were talking about this, too - and she mentioned that her hubby only hears every 5th word she says......hmmmm! I wonder if she said something like......"ROY, apple toy dog cat LET'S computer hair tag sale GO ear table fig shout TO friend baby know how BORDERS! - would he look at her like she was insane.....OR, would he say "Let's go!" :)
Lord, please help me clearly communicate in a way that brings glory and honor to YOU alone!
ADDED AT 10:40 A.M. - I could not resist adding this.....I had a chance to have breakfast at IHOP with Chase this morning before heading off to work. I was telling him about this post and how frustrating it is for guys and girls to communicate. He said, "No, kidding! At one of the breakout sessions at beach retreat (on dating) the moderator asked the girls in the class what they wanted the guys to do for them (or how they wanted the guys to act around them). They said things like "Open the doors for us", "Compliment us", "Don't be afraid to share Jesus", "Have a sense of humor", etc. Then, the moderator asked the guys what they heard....and one of the guys stood up and said, "You girls just want us to be perfect, right?" Chase and I just busted out laughing.....guess this proves my point, huh? :)
