True story: I have a precious daughter who constantly sees the other side of the fence. This, at first frustrated me to no end. I couldn’t/ can’t figure out what I did wrong for her to long for things that she can’t quite see, might not know of, and hasn’t experienced. Do you wonder where you’ve gone wrong with a behavior or two of your kids’? Well, I’m not about to tell you the answer. ‘Cause I’ve no clue what it is.
My only conclusion is that I need drugs.
Just kidding! Already had them.
One thing that works for my attitude/ desires is putting down the flyers and decorating magazines. Oh, that’s hard. How will I know what I want? How will I know if I need something that happens to be on sale this week? Sigh. For my mini-me daughter, we have removed any tv or radio or computer games that have advertising in it. This has made a huge impact on our desires, for both of us.
Another thing that has made a huge difference for us half-empty kinda gals, is the “thankful game”. We started naming 5 things we were thankful for. Now we go through the alphabet taking turns in naming things that start with that letter. For the fun of it, here’s my thankful list:
A - I am thankful for digital art.
B - I am thankful for my beliefs.
C - I am thankful for my cat. Love her!
D - I am thankful that the girls have a wonderful Daddy.
E - I am thankful that I have Emma.
F - I am thankful that my cupboards are full.
G - I am thankful that I am loved by God.
H -I am thankful for Haley.
I - I am thankful for beautiful inspiration.
J - I am thankful for Jesus’ great gift to me.
K - I am thankful for the time that I’ve had with these 2 kittens.
L - I am thankful for my laptop.
M - I am thankful for the love of my life - Mike and the baby of the family - Megan.
N - I am thankful for my mentor and confidante - Nans.
O - I am thankful for the out of doors.
P - I am thankful for our piano (new this summer! I adore it!!! )
Q - oh dear. I am quintessentially thankful?
R - I am thankful for random gifts of love. Ask me about this some time!
S - I am super thankful for digital scrapbooking.
T - I am thankful for Treehouse - the preschool channel without ads!
U - I am thankful for the universal subscription widget. <- I’m totally showing off.
V - I’m thankful for the hope of victory.
W - I’m thankful for the world wide web and the people that I get to meet online.
X - I’m not so thankful for the kids xylophone. But on that note, I am thankful that they have so many toys.
Y - I am thankful for you - my family and friends that read my thoughts here.
Z - I am thankful for my zippity fast internet connection.
So what does it matter?
It matters a lot to me actually. Being thankful creates a peaceful space in my heart where I can ground myself and enjoy the moment.
