Weekend Reflection #57 - Ear Infections and Government Insurance

Posted Jun 06 2009 10:16pm

It's time once again to reflect on the past week. What were some of the positive things that happened? What really bothered you? Did you laugh? Cry? Stand on your head? Whatever you did this past week I want to hear it. Writing down all the crazy things that happened over the past week is a good way to deal with stress. As our lives get busier and busier along with it is stress. It is time to let it all out so you can enjoy your weekend. This week went by too quickly which I am thankful for. I had a very rough week and now that it is Saturday, all the stresses of the past week has given me a headache. I am hoping that this week will be much better.

My traffic stats on my website went down because I did not have time to visit very many blogs this past week. I feel absolutely awful about it because I know I have loyal readers that visit Healthy Moms every day and I want to return the favor. Maybe my guilt has given me a headache. I also fell about a day behind on all my writing assignments for the week. Guilty again!! I hate feeling so guilty. I wish I had an office where I could just escape to and be uninterrupted but when you are a WAHM there is no way you can avoid the "Mom" part.

Monday started out great until I had my o.b appointment. My father in law drove me to the appointment and the kids stayed at Grandma's. We got all the way down there and I signed the clipboard only to be called back to the front desk two minutes later. The gal at the desk said that my MediCal had changed and they no longer accepted my insurance. The appointment would cost me $85. I said, "What!! I did not change my MediCal, nor did I give anyone permission to do that." So she said I could have the appointment but they would need the payment up front. I told her I did not have that kind of money and I was going home. Trying to remain friendly while I appeared to be a mad woman, the gal told me I could contact my MediCal worker and have it all fixed. She assured me that they would probably put me back on my old plan if I requested it. Instead of going home right away and blogging the rest of Monday was spent crying and talking on the phone with Chris and my mother.

On Tuesday I went to the Office of Human Assistance and talked to the gal in charge of MediCal. She gave me some phone numbers to call and the rest of Tuesday was spent on the phone instead of blogging. Another work day shot. But at least I finally got my MediCal figured out. I still have to make a couple more phone calls on Monday before I can reschedule my o.b appointment.

Wednesday morning was going great until Conan got up. I could tell right away that he was not feeling very well. He had thrown up a couple of times the day before and on Wednesday I couldn't get him to eat very much. Once I actually got him to eat a little bit he threw up again. Because our MediCal was so messed up I had no idea where to take him. Fortunately I had an appointment with the gal from Birth and Beyond and she told me that she checked on my MediCal and we were all covered. She was a life saver! She gave me a few numbers to call for some clinics in the area and after she left I was on the phone again.

Conan got to see a doctor later that afternoon and it turned out he only had an ear infection. His very first ear infection. I've never heard of kids throwing up because of an ear infection. So the rest of Wednesday was spent taking care of Conan instead of blogging. Fortunately I did get WW up right away that morning and my giveaway as well.

Wednesday night I wrote everything that I wasn't able to get to down on a notebook because the plan was to get caught up on Thursday. But you know what? I totally forgot that Thursday was Courtney's last day of school and she only had a half a day. Because she got strait A's again this year we promised her we'd take her out to lunch and to see Night at the Museum. So, that was Thursday.

Yesterday I went shopping with my sister-in-law. We went to this really cool baby and children's store, Goores. They have everything from car seats to loft beds for teenagers. I got a maternity supporter and absolutely love it! I also got another Safety First lock for the refrigerator. This one is different and a lot harder to unlock so hopefully it will keep Ciara out. And I also found the bassinet that I want and the car seat that I want. Now it is time to save my pennies so we can afford them before he is born.

So now here I am Saturday morning with my binder and list of blogging tasks out in front of me. I am six articles behind. You are probably wondering why I would be six articles behind when I have been able to publish at least one article a day on Healthy Moms. I've been guest posting on other blogs and I get paid to write for other websites as well. I am getting paid to write most of these assignments. So it is critical that I make the deadlines. I guess my priorities were kind of messed up a little. I probably should have written these first. So guess what I am going to be doing this afternoon? I will spend the afternoon in the quiet library away from all the noise here at the Talbert house and get my assignments done. Sounds like fun, doesn't it!

I would love to hear about your week. Join in and don't forget to leave your link with Mr. Linky. (If it is working properly today.)
