We don’t literally live in a college dorm, but close enough. The building we chose seems to be a favorite with kids going to a variety of Chicagoland colleges. How can we tell? Here’s a list:
The day we toured the building, the rental agent warned us that apartments were going fast. Other applicants seemed to be adult parents with their teenage kids.
The day we moved in I suddenly noticed all the faces around me are 25 years younger.
The first time I tried to do laundry about 40 kids came down panicked because school started the next day and all the machines were in use. A lot of them looked like they had hangovers.
Young adults on the elevator look at me like I’m either a dirty old man or their father (well, I’m old enough) unless I have one of my kids with me. Then they look at me like, “I’m never having one of those.”
Our neighbors across the hall have had three parties in a row. On the last, I had to ask them to turn down the music.
I guess a combination of reasonable prices, a view of the lake, access to Lincoln Park and access to key bus routes make this building a prime candidate for college kids.
At least it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a babysitter.
