Vintage Velveeta Ads and The Super Friends

Posted Oct 29 2008 6:21pm

Welcome to Vintage Thingies Thursdays!

So, if you've been paying any attention at all to my little blog this week, you'll know that I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Velveeta Casserole Challenge. And that voting opens on Thursday, October 30th. That's today. So, take yourself on over there and vote for little ol' me. I'm the one doingThe Chicken Dance while making Ay Caramba! Chicken Spaghetti.

Since all I have on the brain this week is Velveeta cheese, let me share a few more of these gems with you. I basically cleared e-bay of all vintage Velveeta ads.

Here's a charming 1950s vintage Kraft Velveeta cookbook.

Lucky Star Casserole must have been pretty darn popular. You'll find it on tons of vintage advertising from the 1930's all the way to the 1960's. Unfortunately, it just doesn't look too appetizing to me.

How about this delightful 1970s vintage Kraft Velveeta magazine ad?

I remember when the jelly came in glass jars like that. Not a plastic squirt bottle. We'd save the jars, wash them out, pick the labels off and use them as drinking glasses.

In fact, pop over to e-bay and check out all the vintage jelly glasses and Swanky Swigs. Is that stroll down memory lane or what?

I can remember fighting with my little sister over who got which Super Friends jelly glass to drink out of. I had a crush on Aqua Man. So, I always wanted to use the jelly glass with Aqua Man. I liked his curly blonde hair. And his green tights.

Coincidentally, I grew up and married a man with curly blonde hair. Who likes the water. But, alas, he doesn't wear green tights. He wears camouflage.

Super_Friends

So, share with me in the comments. Which Super Friend did you have a crush on as a kid? Was it Superman? Or Batman? Or Robin? Or Aquaman, like me? Or was it someone else all together. Come on, don't be shy!
