One of my sons is a history major in college. He and I both share a love of history, travel and culture! So, I’m looking forward to seeing his eyes light up when he discovers this treasure from TIME Books under the Christmas tree: Great Places of History: Civilization’s 100 Most Important Sites -- An Illustrated Journey. This super-sized hardcover coffee table book is beautifully photographed and packed with information on sites of historic importance around the world.
Each historical site is classified according to its impact on cultures, religion, society, politics, civilizations, battles, inquiry, innovation, and the arts. Features include well-known sites, such as the Pyramid of Khufu and The Sphinx (Egypt), The Forbidden City (China), Auschwitz (Poland), and the Panama Canal, as well as lesser-known places, such as the Burj Dubai (Dubai), Masada (Israel), Brandenburg Gate (Germany), and Lindisfame (Britain). Each is featured in beautiful photographs and several paragraphs about its significance.
Great Places of History: Civilization’s 100 Most Important Sites -- An Illustrated Journey would be treasured by anyone who loves history, geography, photography, world events, travel, and more. Informative and eye-catching, it makes an impressive and unique gift. I’m certain my son will love it!
