Tinycandy’s Gift: A New Classic Children’s Book for Christmas

Posted Dec 19 2009 5:45pm

I had the pleasure of being able to read a delightful new Christmas book to my children this afternoon. It’s called Tinycandy’s Gift, by Susan E. Estes, and is the story of a little elf who walks with a limp and has round ears (unlike most elves with pointy ears). Because of his differences, he is ostracized by the other elves, especially when they see how kind Santa is to Tinycandy. The little elf longs to fit in, so he attempts to figure out his special talent so he can join the other elves in Santa’s workshop. Unfortunately, he doesn’t turn out to be very good at making toys, but with the help of Mrs. Claus, he discovers that he has a knack for baking. In fact, through trial and error, he comes up with a treat that looks like a red-and-white-striped cane. Santa tells the other elves that he is disappointed in their cruel treatment of Tinycandy and assigns them the task of naming the new treat. The elves begin to feel badly about their behavior and apologize to Tinycandy. Then they announce that they’ve christened his discovery a candy cane! Santa proclaims that the candy cane will be put in children’s stockings from then on as a sign of kindness and forgiveness.

This rhyming hardcover book, beautifully illustrated by Mike Motz, teaches children to appreciate differences, uncover their talents, and be kind to others. You and your children can read it together or listen to the story on the accompanying CD, narrated by Alan F. Moore. Just go to www.seecreativeconcepts.com to order an autographed copy for only $14.99 plus free shipping! You can also order (a non-autographed copy) through the Amazon link below. This is a lovely gift that your family will want to read over and over each year as a Christmas tradition!
