Okay, so I admit it....I'm a reality show junkie. I can't help it. I enjoy getting lost in the drama of someone else's life, especially if it's really juicy drama. What I didn't expect though was to end up liking some celebrities that I actually couldn't stand at one point. And those celebrities that I liked? I ended up despising them. Go figure......
From "couldn't stand" to "not so bad afterall".....
First, we have Tori Spelling and her family in their reality show, Home Sweet Hollywood. I was a huge 90210 fan back in the day and I could never stand her. I mean, for a virgin, her character dressed like a total slut and she was always whining and crying about something. Then a few years go by, she (Tori, not Donna) cheats on her husband with her current husband and breaks up his family. I had like ZERO respect for her. Then her reality show came on the air and I figured I'd catch the first episode so I could enjoy hating on her some more. I was shocked that I actually ended up adoring her. She seems like a real person....someone I could see myself being friends with in real life. As a mother, she experiences the same emotions I experience...the same mommy guilt, the same mother issues I have with my own mother. Plus, her kids are absolutely adorable. So I have fallen in love with Donna Martin. Shoot me.
Second is Denise Richards on her show "It's Complicated". I had always disliked her but for no specific reason. Mainly because she reminded me of Barbie with her tiny perky boobs and her little pixie nose. Honestly, she just didn't come across as a nice person. Then she married Charlie Sheen and I figured they deserved each other. She then divorced Charlie Sheen and all kinds of accusations started flying about what a bitch she was and how she was making his life miserable and using their two young daughters as pawns. Oh, then she started dating her best friend's husband. Granted, Richie Sambora and Heather Locklear were already separated when Denise started dating him but all us women know there is a rule in the sisterhood - you don't date your best friend's sooon-to-be ex-husband. Then it was announced that she'd have her own reality show....I'm not sure why even watched the first episode, other than there was probably nothing else on tv that night. I was surprised at how much I ended up liking her. She seems very down-to-earth, not snobby at all, she comes across as a loving, caring mother, daughter and sister. She even seems to go to great lengths to help friends out. Plus, watching her interact with her father, who is a recent widower, is very sweet.
Next, we have Gene Simmons and his family from Family Jewels. It's not that I ever disliked Gene Simmons, it was more that the guy totally freaked me out. Name one kid who wasn't scared of him when he dressed up as the demon in Kiss and I'll send you one of my kids (UPS- next day delivery, even). Turns out Gene Simmons is actually a loving father with an amazing sense of humor and such an intense desire to protect his family. He's especially overprotective when it comes to his daughter, Sophie. Don't get me wrong, though, he's still an arrogant asshole but he just seems more likable now.....probably the whole family thing.
From "seems pretty cool" to "oh man, what was I thinking...
Jon and Kate Gosselin....I don't think I even need to mention my reasons for this one. It's as obvious as obvious gets.
Then there's Kendra Wilkinson, one of the girls from The Girls Next Door. For some reason, I liked her on that show. I thought she just seemed more down-to-earth than the other 2 girls....someone who really enjoyed life and had a great time. But then she left Hugh Hefner and got her own show called Kendra. And now she is the ultimate idiot....the one episode where she had a yard sale proved that to me.
Lastly, there's the Kardashian sisters. I honestly had no clue who they were until I watched their show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Really.....who the hell are they and why are they important enough to have their own show? I mean, I get the whole Bruce Jenner connection but he's seen better days, in my opinion.
Okay, so now I wanna hear from you....what (if any) reality shows do you watch? Has it changed your opinion of those celebrities at all?
