The Princess and the Frog (review)

Posted Mar 22 2010 5:10pm
We were sent a copy of Disney's The Princess and the Frog and we LOVE it! I think my daughter might be the biggest fan but my sons and I are really enjoying it as well. We have watched it several times since it arrived.

Disney celebrates a modern-day classic from the directors of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Discover what really happened after the princess kissed the frog in an inspired twist on the world's most famous kiss. This hilarious adventure leaps off the screen with stunning animation, irresistible music and an unforgettable cast of characters. Enter Princess Tiana's world of talking frogs, singing alligators and lovesick fireflies as she embarks on an incredible journey through the mystical bayous of Louisiana. Spurred on by a little bit of courage and a great big dream, these new friends come to realize what's truly important in, family and friendship. Overflowing with humor and heart, The Princess and the Frog is an incredible motion picture experience your whole family will want to enjoy again and again!

Bonus Content Includes: Deleted Scenes, The Princess Portraits Game, DVD Feature Film + Bonus, Digital Copy Of Feature Film, The Making Of A Princess, Conjuring The Villain, The Return To Hand-Drawn Animation, The Disney Legacy, Disney's Newest Princess, Bringing Life To Animation, Art Galleries, Music Video By Ne-Yo

I have always been a big fan of Disney movies and this one is no exception. The Princess and the Frog has it all- a beautiful princess, a classic villain, great music and wonderful humour. It is actually playing in the background behind me right now and my sons are howling with laughter. You can get better than that!

My daughter is completely enamoured with Princess Tiana as a frog. She has already started to mimic some of the lines from the movie and she keeps walking around saying "She kisses the frog and then she turns into a frog and then the boy frog kisses the girl frog EEEWWWWW!!". It's pretty funny.

I think this particular "princess" movie has some great lessons as well. Princess Tiana is a classic rags to riches story... with a twist. But even once she becomes a Princess you still see her work hard to make her dreams come true. This is no pampered princess. I also think it was about time there was an African-American princess!

I personally adored some of the other characters as well. Ray, the cajun firefly, and Louis the jazz-playing alligator absolutely cracked me up. I think I find this story as enjoyable as my kids do. I will say the voodoo black magic is very dark... but in my opinion it is no darker than any of the other classic Disney villains... just maybe a little more realistically portrayed. My kids are 3, 6, and 7 and all three are very sensitive to "scary" bits in movies but all three have been fine with this movie. It wouldn't be much of a fairy tale without the scary bits :).

We have also enjoyed the bonus features and the fact that the DVD/Blue Ray combo comes with a digital version of the movie is very cool. I am happy to recommend The Princess and the Frog !

Thanks so much to Click Communications for sending me a review copy of this fabulous movie.
