When you will be gone from home for an extended period of time, and your dog is accompanying you, it may be good to learn some tips for happy travel before you leave. Here are a few
Ensure you have your pet's vaccinations up to date - Before starting on your trip, get your pet examined and ensure shots are up to date. Many places, such as state or national parks, where pets are allowed will need to see the documentation that your pet has all vaccinations before permitting entrance.
Make sure your dog is wearing a tag - Your dog should have a collar with a tag containing your home address and telephone number. A microchip is also an option. Take a photo of your dog and carry it with you, because if he should get lost, you will always be able to show others what your dog looks like.
While traveling, take frequent breaks - Take regular breaks when driving so your dog can stretch. A little exercise and some potty breaks go a long way in making your dog more comfortable and happy. This is good practice for you and others in your family too!
For extended vacations, travel in an RV - An RV is perfect for traveling with kids and pets. Since your dog loves to have familiar things close, an RV motorhome vacation permits you to bring along all our pet's favorite bedding, toys, dishes and the like. When you go to attractions that don't allow pets, you can leave Fido in the RV with the air conditioning running. Saves the cost of kennels!
