Quality Time With the Grandparents.

Posted Mar 19 2012 2:25pm

Growing up, my grandmother and I used to spend hours playing cards and watching older television shows like Matlock and Perry Mason.  I can remember those moments vividly and it always brings a smile to my face.  Spending time with my grandparents while I was younger was definitely the highlight of my childhood.  I was fortunate to live with my grandparents most of my life, so these moments occurred frequently.  I was blessed to have grandparents that were around and could be actively involved in my life.

Now that I am older and have children of my own, I sort of giggle when my grandmother sits at the table with them playing games or watches television shows with them.  As you can imagine, it brings memories of my childhood.  Also, I’m blessed to be able to share my grandparents with my children, as so many of their friends no longer have their great-grandparents or never had the chance to meet them.  Despite my grandmother being so actively involved in my children’s lives, they are still very much involved in mine.

During family vacations to Florida to visit them, my grandfather will babysit the kids while my grandmother and I go down to the club house to play bingo.  They have tables set up for those of us who want to join in a group game or computer set up for those who prefer OnlineBingo.comIt’s an absolute hoot!  For those of you who have never had the privilege of watching the older generation play BINGO either in a group setting or online, I highly recommend joining them!  They get so competitive and frustrated when the game is not going exactly as planned and while I understand their frustrations, it’s adorable to see an eighty year old women utter not-so-kind words under her breath.  If nothing else, consider it a great time and a great way to get some quality time in with your loved ones.
