Potty Time Tuesday | Some of the Basics of Potty Training

Posted Sep 29 2009 10:03pm

When you approach the subject of potty training it is important to have a plan. This is a major step in a child's development and a "winging it" approach will most likely fail, leaving both you and your child frustrated.

The first step you should take is to organize a potty training plan of attack. When you begin training you should tell your child exactly what being potty trained means. Use words that he or she will be able to understand and explain what it means to go to the bathroom.

You should also make sure to change diapers as soon as they become soiled. This will let your child know that waste products are to be gotten rid of as soon as possible.

Furthermore, you should get excited about this new phase in your child's life. If you are excited and upbeat the chances are that your child will be as well and will be keen to do well in this new
activity.

Always keep a positive attitude. Explain that this process is something everyone has to go through. In addition, there are plenty of visual aids you can use to demonstrate the importance of potty training to your child. You can show video tapes, books, and charts that will give your child a visual impression of what is being taught.
