Planet Explorers: Electronic Travel Guides for Kids!

Posted Oct 13 2011 11:42am
This past summer, we took our seven-year-old twins to Walt Disney World. We carried a guidebook with us, but it was definitely geared toward adults with plenty of information about prices, making reservations, where to stay, etc. How I wished we had a guidebook just for the kids! Well, I recently learned about one that is perfect for children. It’s part of a series of eBooks called Planet Explorers, and kids can view them on the computer, your eReader, iPad, or cell phone! On our long drive to Disney, it would have been great for our kids to read and enjoy Planet Explorers Walt Disney World on my phone or Nook.

I had the opportunity to check out Planet Explorers Walt Disney World (plus the other books in the series, which I’ll describe later), and it was fabulous! It was filled with fun facts, trivia and “what’s cool” at Walt Disney World’s various theme parks. A brief history (great information for school reports) was included, as well as information on food (a high priority for kids!). There were plenty of colorful pictures, plus clickable links that take kids to related websites, such as a Wikipedia page with more info on a particular subject or a shop where parents can purchase pirate shirts! Symbols on the attractions notified kids if they were S = Scary; D = Dark; A = Awesome; T = Thrilling; and W = Wet. Children can explore the book from start to finish or jump around to different sections. And, as a parent, you’ll be thrilled to know that the Planet Explorers eBooks are just $2.99! Order them at Smashwords, and you can instantly download them for your electronic device.

The following Planet Explorers titles are available, with more to come!

Planet Explorers New York City
Planet Explorers Philadelphia
Planet Explorers Chicago
Planet Explorers Disneyland
Planet Explorers Walt Disney World

I viewed the Chicago and Philadelphia versions, as well, and they contained the same great formatting and content as the Walt Disney World book, with plenty of fun facts, pictures, links and more. I love that they even dispense kid-friendly advice, such as telling children to be sure to hold a grown-up’s hand in busy places and to have a plan in case they become separated.

Next time you’re planning a trip to any of the above destinations, be sure to download a Planet Explorers eBook for your children. They’re a steal at just $2.99, and they’re the perfect tool for introducing your kids to the many attractions they’ll be seeing.
