Paint By Powder

Posted Mar 14 2009 3:36pm

We woke up this morning to a dreary, overcast day and a forecast that's not looking too promising for the rest of the weekend. So finding new and clever activities to keep the kids entertained indoors is a must. Good thing I had a box of Powder Art handy to keep my five year old busy.

Powder Art is an innovative peel and paint art project that uses a powder paint that kids can "paint" onto a sticky paper. Similar to paint-by-numbers, I like that Powder Art empowers kids to make a work of art themselves (although they may need some help peeling off the small pieces). The paint is made from a recycled paper product, so it's eco-friendly, non-toxic and easy to use.

My daughter painted a mermaid first and was quite proud of her work. She has been taking a painting class and enjoyed "practicing" with Powder Art. While not exactly mess-free, this is a little bit neater than regular paint. The powder, if used without a curious two-year old around is quite neat and self-contained. However my son let his cuiousity get the better of him and decided to dump the entire tray of dry paint out. Clean-up was a snap, though.

I have to say I am a big fan of Powder Art. It may not encourage a child's creativity but it does give them guidelines for creating a work of art they can be proud of, an is something different from standard paint. With themes ranging from holiday to sports to animals, and prices from $3.99 - $9.99, Powder Art is a great activity your kids will enjoy.
