What, you never heard of the top-secret hotel DVD exchange program? I hadn’t either, but here’s how it works:
You leave the room. Someone – presumably a maid or janitor, but we’ll call them your DVD Exchange Officer – goes into your room and borrows a DVD. In our case, they chose Shrek II.
Your DVD Exchange Officer invites his friends and watches said DVD. Then, sometime the next day, the NEW DVD is delivered onto your kitchen table while you’re out of the room. It’s very important this is done stealthily, because as I said, this is a top-secret program.
In our case, the new DVD was Shrek I. This was quite fortunate, because as our son shrieked, “I never saw that Shrek!”
This program is so secret that even the front desk clerk has no awareness of it. Apparently, we broke some taboo by talking about it, so I expect next time all of our DVDs will be replaced with the entire “I Dream of Genie” collector’s set. But I’m willing to take the risk to tell you about this unique concierge service.
This just in: a guy who has been living in this hotel’s laundry room for all 5 years it has been open tells me the DVD Exchange Service will soon be expanded to include shoes, jewelry, checkbooks and open packages of food.
