Welcome to another installment of Weight Loss Wednesdays.
Finally, even the US Government is recommending that people lift weights. Earlier this month, the US Department of Health released physical activity guidelines for Americans. It recommends regular physical activity for substantial health benefits. These benefits include: improved cardiovascular health, reduced blood pressure and a reduction in diseases like Type 2 diabetes, colon and breast cancer.
The recommendations are to get from 2-2.5 hours of aerobic activity per week that is at least at a moderate level. In addition, muscle strengthening activities should be included at least 2 days a week.
Remember that muscle strengthening does not necessarily mean lifting weights specifically. Moving heavy loads and heavy gardening counts! The more physical activity you include, the better the benefits will be.
