Neighborhood Toy Store Day – Saturday, November 10th

Posted Nov 08 2012 12:00am

Psst. You! Yeah, you!

Got a minute?

Great, I’ve got to tell you about the 3rd annual Neighborhood Toy Store Day this Saturday, November 10th.

What exactly is Neighborhood Toy Store Day ?

Neighborhood Toy Story Day coordinated by ASTRA, the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association, introduces families to the fun (and goodness) of shopping locally. We all know shopping locally is a very good thing. In fact, did you know that for every $100 spent in local, independently-owned stores, $68 returns to the community in the form of taxes, salaries, charitable contributions and more – in contrast with only $43 when consumers spend their money at a national chain?*?  I sure didn’t, but I’m glad to know it now!

Additionally, I’ve found that I’m able to find higher quality, boutique and specialty products at independent toy stores.

Our family was sent several items found in such independent toy stores.

First up, Puppet-on-a-Stick. If I’m amused by a toy, I know it’s a hit. It’s absolutely no surprise that Paige loves it. In fact, Puppet-on-a-Stick by Educational Insights is a winner of ASTRA’s Best Toys for Kids 2012 award (Category: Pretend/Doll Play)

My daughter uses her imagination, putting on puppet shows or simply talking with them. Their fun for all ages and at $9.99 for three, a great price!

Then we come to My First Super Science Kit. Geared for children 4+ this kit retails for $39.99 and is bound to keep those little scientists busy!

Finally, let’s talk about the BRIO Classic Figure 8 Train Set by Schylling Toys. I can’t tell you how much Johnny loved playing with his BRIO train toys when he was a toddler! This set promotes open-ended and creative play, boys {and girls!} will spend hours upon hours playing with their BRIO toys.
All of these toys can be found in independent toy stores!

What are you waiting for? Check out the Your Neighborhood Toy Store website and find your local, independent toy stores and get a head start on holiday shopping! For more information, find them on Facebook and Twitter .

*According to the 3/50 Project.

*I was provided with the above pictured toys as a thank you for sharing this event.*
