mountain top

As a very young girl, I do recall watching Dr. King speak on television and remember feeling excited every time he spoke. Honestly, I had no clue of the deeper meaning of his inspirational oratory at such a young age raised in a white bread home. Still he managed to stir the imaginations of a 6 year old girl way back then. This speech is ultimately my favorite….I know the “I Have A Dream” speech is so much more compelling. Still this one to me is more than a promise of Dr. King’s dream that he shared back in 1963 but a glimpse into the reality of that dream and it is so poignant as he was assassinated the next day on my little brother, Billy’s birthday (40 years ago!).

Dr. King, I don’t believe we are quite there at the mountain top ready to run down to the Promised Land just yet but we are getting closer. I can only pray that I will see us all reach it in my lifetime. Thank you Dr. King, for the inspiration and for sharing the dream.
