Welcome to the South of the South Island of New Zealand. The City of Dunedin awaits with it's glorious homes, parks and public buildings.
I would imagine today we are receiving some readers from the US - thanks to the Hooked on Houses fall house tour facilitated by Julia - thanks matey ! And thank you for stopping by on what will probably be a long and enjoyable day of house hooking, opps looking.
So what does an Aussie girl living in sunny Queensland know about New Zealand ... well quite a lot really. I have my own permanent NZ memento in darling MIC (man in change - hee hee).
He is from Dunedin. To be fair I found him in Brisbane, but we have gone back and lived in Dunedin for two years in the late 90s. And of course we fly across the ditch every so often to visit his lovely family.
And more to the point what do I know about this house. Well for nigh on two years I walked past it everyday on my way to work. To be found on the edge of the CBD, half way down High Street, at pretty much the 'catch your breath after the really steep bit' mark.
So I often found myself peeping over the garden wall, wondering who was doing what in such a lovely home. So image my thrill, when searching for a subject for this house party, I find it online with a big FOR SALE sign and a relatively small price tag. More on that later.
This of course is the front of the home. A much admired home said the ad blub. Oh really, who would have thought.
Come on in and have a peek around - they won't mind. This is the paneled entry foyer.
See the wee power room off the entry - how sweet - and practical - it can be rather windy and chilly in Dunedin. So realistically one might have to pee as soon as one comes into a warm space.
And we have two lounges to choose from - how proper. But which to choose - I might just have to make a roster ... or maybe a 'his' and 'hers' space, or yet a 'them, being kids' and 'us' space. Try and see the view of the harbour out of the window above.
MIC and I adore lead light that just uses patterned clear glass - like found in the foyer pic above.
But for this window I would also accept coloured glass. Upstairs we go.
And yes upstairs is the main bedroom along with a few others - five in total.
And more beautiful windows.
And back downstairs - what I consider to be a useful kitchen.
I appreciate useful kitchens over dead glam ones any day.
I have not mentioned it as yet ... but here's the view. Dunedin is situated on a beautiful headland and harbour. Nice.
And a study I could blog in for hours ....
Oh yes the main bathroom, with claw foot bath and pedestal basin. Shame bout the boring ole mirror ...
Well here we are back down stairs and ready to leave. Remember to take your scarf. Head down hill and you will be in the city centre in about five minutes.
The ad gave the following details ...
Magnificent grand character residence, full of splendour and charm. The extra detail to it's faithful restoration is highlighted with the beautiful marble fireplaces, leadlight windows, classic flooring, grand entrance way and elegant stairway. A muchadmired homebuilt to withstand the test of time offering four or five bedrooms, ensuite, study area, formal living, an additional living space, separate dining and plenty of storage. Truly dazzling, our owners are moving abroad so here is your opportunity to seize a piece of Dunedin's history and one of Dunedin's finest city homes. Sink into sumptuous living today.
Now back to me ... and how much to sink into sumptuous living - guess and tell me your guess in the comments. Remember NZ dollars. I'll put the answer in the comments too. But commit now - no cheating.
Go here to see more pics - and to make an offer - and if you do buy the home may I please come for a sleep over :)
Now head back to Julia and hook on. Thanks for stopping by - I'll be round round your way soon - cheers le
