Jr. Team Tennis

Posted Mar 03 2009 2:17pm

allracquetsvsregulationracquet As summer draws near, many parents begin looking for summer sports that their child(ren) can participate in. Rather than signing them up for the traditional sports like t-ball, softball, baseball or soccer- try signing them up for Jr. Team Tennis. Not only is this a great way to socialize your child, but it is a fun way for them to become more active. Plus, it can be a bonding experience for those parents who participate in the activity with their child. With Jr. Team Tennis, your child will learn the important values of cooperation and unity and that succeeding is not about winning or losing, it’s about how they play the game.

girlvolley2-36 USTA Jr. Team Tennis is designed for children ages 6-18 and once signed up, they are immediately placed on teams. Matches are held anywhere from the local park or school to a commercial or private club. They recommend putting together co-ed teams, but they can also be set up in single gender teams. Teams are divided up by varying age (U18 - U8) and play levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced).

On March 2nd, the USTA will hold their first-ever national day of youth registration for Jr. Team Tennis and other local tennis activities. Nearly 650 local tennis programs around the country will host sign up events in their community on that night in an effort to encourage parents and children to get into the game. To find a league for you and your children, please visit the Jr. Team Tennis website.
