It's Just a car, right? Not To The Bear!

Posted Mar 30 2011 2:20pm
When we bought our Honda Odyssey Touring minivan almost 4 years ago, the Bear was just 2 1/2 and Little was still in my belly.  We bought it from a family who owned it for a total of 3 months, just enough time to put 3000 miles on it. So, basically, we bought it brand new but not at the brand new price.  The family we bought it from had kids a little older than my girls are now.  When we came to get the van, the kids were really sad.  They loved their van.  I looked around at the camper, boat, and Suburban and thought the kids were just a little crazy.  It's just a car, right?

Well, fast forward 4 years and we are selling this most loved van. Why?  Because we want a camper and we want something that tows better than a van.  Will I miss my navigation system, back-up camera, electric hatch, heated seats, and the mass amounts of room?  Sure I will.  What will the kids miss?  The DVD player, the captain's chairs (so they don't have to sit right next to each other), the ease of mom just pushing a button and their doors open, and the console between their seats that stores their massive amounts of art supplies.

I noticed an attitude change in the Bear since we told her we were selling the van.  Almost like we were getting rid of her favorite toy.  She's been crying at the drop of a hat, she's had massive back talk, and she gets angry any time I ask her not to leave something in the van.  All I can think of is that she's upset about us selling the van.  She acts this way when there is change and nothing else has changed.  I'm hoping when we bring home our new (used) car that she'll get over it.  For now, this is just really annoying.
