Grandma Opal's Vintage Hanky Apron, originally uploaded by Rick Rack Attack!.

Well, yesterday I decided to start a series on the things that vintage aprons are made of. I started a list and I'm amazed at the variety! I had trouble deciding which one to share next!
So, I went the easy route... this one is already nicely photographed and ready to share!
It's silly, but I name my vintage aprons. No, my obsession is not so weird that I give the aprons names and I talk to them... I name them because when an apron sells, I immediately know which one to go get & pack up for their new home. It's one of those little memory tricks & names is what works for me versus a generic product title. So, anyway, you will notice that many of my aprons have silly names or old-fashioned ladies' names.
This particular vintage apron is named Grandma Opal. (Psst... she's for sale at Rick Rack Attack ). She is made of organdy and hankies. Can you say WOW!? I absolutely love the purple stitching details on the waistband & pocket. It provides a perfect contrast to the purple roses in the hankies. Basically, a vintage handkerchief was cut into quarters and stitched along the hem of an organdy apron. This is what I call a Sunday apron or many people call it a hostess apron. This isn't the apron for the messy business of cooking Sunday dinner, it is the apron for looking pretty & serving Sunday dinner in!
Well, yesterday we did not have much of a fancy Sunday dinner, just a casual one. We went to the Mardi Gras parade in Port Arthur, Texas. My daughters screamed, made so much noise & ran into the street picking up Mardi Gras beads so much that we came home with over 200 beaded necklaces!

Then, we came home and ate spaghetti & chicken in front of the TV while watching the Super Bowl! OK... so, I really only watched the commercials. My favorite commercial was in the 4th quarter- Will Ferrell's Bud Light commercial. How about you? (OK, so now ya'll know a little about my sense of humor... but Will Ferrell makes me laugh, in a strange sort of way!) It was a very nice Sunday overall.
