Bleh. We all know this time of year. When sweet, spectacular summer begins to slip away, transitioning into autumn without missing a beat. We’re forced to trade in our pooltime for schooltime, replace our beach towels with backpacks, and no longer have the option of waking up at noon.
Well folks, this year I’ve decided to focus on the positive, find the silver lining. It was challenging but I managed to scrounge up a few cheery things to look forward to in the coming months. Hopefully this’ll put ‘lil pep back in your step.
As much as I lovelovelove summer, nothing compares to fall weather. Crisp autumn air fills your lungs as you stroll down sidewalks littered with scarlet, carrot, and sunshine colored leaves from trees overhead. The honey-colored sun sinks below the horizon earlier, momentarily leaving behind brilliant pinks and reds. Days get shorter and fade into black nights, spent staring at the dark, indigo skies full of glittering stars. You pull out your flannel pjs and snuggle under your heavy blankets, trying to stay on the part of your bed that’s warmest. The atmosphere is just amazing.
New Television Series
Most of the teens I know have at least one television show that they watch on a weekly basis. For me it’s Thursday nights—Ugly Betty followed by Grey’s Anatomy. Anyway, a lot of series start back up in the fall with radical season openers, filled with romance, answers to last season’s questions, and dramatic twists. I don’t know about you, but I’m super excited.
Social Calendar Updates
Fall is one of the busiest social times of the year! It’s when people are just dying to get together and sip warm cider and hot chocolate, catching up with friends they haven’t seen all summer. OctoberFest and FallBall invites will come pouring in, as well as ones for back-to-school dances and end-of-summer parties.
The clothes this time of year are super fabulous.Wool sweaters, denim pants, pencil skirts, crazy-colored socks, long flowing scarves, and funny hats with matching gloves! Oh I get tingles just thinking about all the shopping.
I am a total football buff. It’s the best thing about Sundays. And like many dedicated fans, on game day I’m at home, on the couch, chips in bowl, prepared to whoop and holler when the game comes on.
Reunited and It Feels So Good
School starting up again means getting to see your friends all together in one place, including the ones you couldn’t get together with over the summer. The hugging, the funny anecdote sharing, the schedule comparing—that experience alone makes going back seem a lot less horrible.
Days Off School
As lame as it may sound, one of the best things about going back to school is looking forward to days off. And there are always plenty at the beginning of the year—Labor Day Weekend, Columbus Day, Elections, and Veterans Day, to name a few.
Okay, I am officially tapped out. It’s your turn. What gets you jazzed about fall?
