Glasses Fit for a Dad

Posted Oct 10 2008 2:00pm

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

I have been wearing glasses for over ten years. I’ve tried wearing contact lens many times but just could not get used to poking myself in the eye. I have a cackle of crazy kids that make it a daily habit of jumping on me like rabid spider monkeys (inevitably knocking my eyeglasses across the room) when I get home from work, and yes I love it but my glasses take a pounding. I joke with my wife that I need to get some Dad goggles (ala Kareem Abdul-Jabbar style) she doesn’t get it - she doesn’t know who he is (hey honey, check out the picture above).

Eyeglasses @ Zenni Optical

Aside from getting a dorky leash for my current frames (not), I have settled for getting a second pair for the weekends and around the house. There are a number of online options. I stumbled across Zenni Optical. Their cheap. Their secret is that they manufactured their own frames and sell direct to the customer, with no middlemen and virtually no advertising budget (as low as $8 bucks a pair). You will find they have a sizable selection of frames, with single vision lens, sunsensor (photochromic) lens, tinted sunglasses lens, bifocal lens, progressive lens, etc.

If you are like me and you know what looks good on your nose, and your prescription is current (you should have your eyes examined at least every two years and consider having your retinas checked every year), you should check them out.
