Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer Review

Posted Apr 20 2009 12:22am

I love how technology progresses! When Johnny was a baby 9 years ago I had one of those digital thermometers. The kind that you had to put under the tongue or in an armpit until it beeped. And that felt like forever, because whenever you have to take the temperature of a baby they aren't feeling well. Sure they had the ear thermometers, but they were close to $100 bucks and we sure didn't have the extra money at that time!
We've come a long way baby! The Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer is a mama's dream! It's so easy to use, simply place on the forehead and gently across to the hairline. But how does that happen, right?
As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:
First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 times per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;
Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the area where the temperature is being taken. The patented arterial heat balance ( AHB ) software then synthesized the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.
This is now my go to thermometer. We finally broke down and bought one of the ear thermometers a couple of years ago. I was forever running out of the protective caps to put on it. You don't have to worry about that with the TemporalScanner. It has the added feature of a silver ion antimicrobial head that destroys bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi. Basically, it self-disinfects. How cool is that?
There are a number of places you can buy the ExergenTemporalScanner, both in store and online. This would make a great gift for a new mom, and is affordable in price.
Special thanks to Extraordinary Mothers for this review!
