Eco luxury Infant Clothes Designer: Jennifer Murphy for Chapter One Organics

Posted Sep 07 2009 10:49pm

The competition for Best Eco-luxury Infant Clothes Designer ended September, but last-minute nominations came rolling in. To expand awareness of exceptional green designers, this fashion category of nominations continues.

Meet Jennifer Murphy. She is a Chicago resident who lives with her husband, daughter, and son. They hold a family passion for farm animals and the future of our environment. Jennifer’s mission is to improve the lives of others through her talents, creativity, intuition and knowledge. She produces modern fun baby and toddler clothes from sustainable fabrics.

Jennifer not only designs for her clothing company, Chapter One Organics, she collaborates with a U.S. manufacturer that trains women facing significant barriers to employment. The women learn sewing skills, earn a living wage, attain productive work habits, establish careers, and begin their “Chapter One.”

One of the manufacturer’s teaching sites is at a minimum security prison in the Midwest. There hope subsist for a green future job. The manufacturer also hires women outside the prison system who possess minimal skills for a career. The poverty-breaking program enables those women to care for themselves and their families. As one can imagine, Jennifer loves being part of a program that does so much good as the demand for her designs increases.

Jennifer began her fashion passion at a young age. She served on a fashion advisory board and modeled for a department store in high school. In college she dabbled in design. She spent many years fine tuning business management skills with a long stint in retail management. Those life experiences led to the formation of her impressive designs and company.
