October is the best month of the year. It’s the peak month for fall foliage, and it’s packed full of important days for me, including my birthday, anniversary, and Halloween, my favorite holiday. It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and National Vegetarian Month. One important thing about October that you might not know is that it is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Statistics say that one out of four women have directly experienced domestic violence. Seventy-four percent of Americans know someone affected by domestic violence, but most of us don’t talk or even think about the subject until it is too late.
ClickToEmpower.org is trying to do something about the lack of communication on this important topic. They have started the “Tell a Gal P.A.L.” program.

ClickToEmpower is also running a program to donate to the Education and Job Training Assistance Fund for survivors of domestic violence. To contribute, head over to ClickToEmpower.org and click the “Click to Empower Now” button. That’s all it takes. For every click (one per person, per day), The Allstate Foundation will donate one dollar, and they are very close to reaching their goal of 300,000 clicks.
As Ana Ortiz of Ugly Betty said, “You might not be a victim of domestic abuse or know anybody who’s a victim of domestic abuse, but you know it’s there.” The month may be coming to a close shortly, but it is important o always remain aware of the problem and to help those suffering… no matter what month it is.
