When I was an editor in college, I oversaw coverage of a citywide power failure in Bloomington, Indiana. During my entire career, it was perhaps my finest, proudest and happiest moments.
It also was one of the most stressful. When I awoke the next morning, I looked at myself in the mirror and noticed amidst my dark brown curly hair dozens of new gray hairs.
My hair has continued to whiten all my life, but the process has seemingly hastened during my years as a dad. Fortunately, my wife says salt and pepper makes me more handsome. (Did I marry the right person, or what?)
Could my hair have really turned gray over night? Is being a parent continuing to turn my hair prematurely gray?
