Damaged My Induction Cooker

Posted Jan 14 2009 4:54pm 2 Comments

Last Saturday, I happily tried out my induction cooker for the first time, frying banana chocolate pancake. The only cookware I have, that is suitable for the induction cooker, is this cheap frying pan - an FOC item received some loooong time ago.

After using it, this is how the pan’s bottom looks like:

And the induction cooktop became white (or metallic) coloured (can you see the ‘ring’?):

I am so upset with this. Not sure how to remove the stain. Not sure if it is caused by the pan, the glass top was so hot after frying and it lasted for quite a while. I’ve thrown away the pan, of course. Will invest in good cookware, when SM comes back for CNY (hehehe, I am so cheapskate, wanna get cheap staff rate for the cookwares!).

Anyhow, the ‘product’ of this session was quite satisfactory… Here is my banana chocolate chips pancake:

I picked the recipe from here. A reader of Suzette’s Parenting & Breastfeeding Blog wrote to me and we chatted for a while, then she recommended this site for baby weaning food. Though my children are way passed the stages in this blog, I think it is still a great site for food idea.

This pancake is actually not sweet, so my children don’t like it very well. But I quite like the ‘natural’ sweetness - coming from soy milk, banana and choc chips only. I modified the recipe a bit, replaced milk with soy milk as I don’t drink milk; and also replaced butter with olive oil. :D

Here is the Banana Chocolate Chips Pancake recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1 cup soy milk
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 egg
1 large banana, mashed
1 handful of chocolate chips

Method:
(1) Mix soy milk, oil and egg.
(2) Add in flour and mix well.
(3) Stir in mashed banana and chocolate chips.
(4) Heat up non-stick pan and scoop about 2 spoons of the mixture to make one pancake.
(5) When bubbles appears, flip over but do not press the pancakes.
(6) After about one minute, remove pancakes from pan and serve.

Hi there. I ran into the same problem in my eagerness to test out my induction cooker. My pan was completely red as well before I put it on the cookertop. I tried boiling some water and smelt something funny and removed the pan. The bottom of the pan is bare metal (MORE than yours),  and now I have these bubbles on the surface of the induction cooker. See the pics...

Does your induction cooker still work fine? I am afraid to use mine again in case it blows up for whatever reason.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I can feel your pain! Well, I eventually got rid of the metallic stains.

My husband found a cleanser in the local hardware shop, met the specifically as per the guideline in the manual - for ceramic cooktop. It wasn't that great, but it worked - very slowly, and probably gently.

I used it with a soft cloth, standing the whole night, spraying and rubbing the stains gently. With lots of effort, I would say. But it eventually worked.

Why don't you check out the manual and go to the local hardware shops
