Katie Brown has written for numerous newspapers, had her own PBS show and was on the Lifetime network. She’s appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America and the Today Show. And now, “Katie Brown Celebrates” is her fifth cookbook. Still, I’d never actually watched one of her shows, never read a recipe by her, and never, ever saw one of her cookbooks. Now that’s weird, right? Yeah, I thought so too. But then I was given this book to review and because I didn’t know anything about Mrs. Brown could be totally objective. As they say, here goes:
The full title is Katie Brown Celebrates Simple and Spectacular Parties AllYear Round, and that, dear reader, is exactly what she pulls off. There are parties or celebrations for every single month of the year, with March bringing us The Welcome Wagon and September the Playful Safari Spread. Katie loves her family and incorporates as many of them into these delicious celebrations every chance she can and does it wonderfully.
Bring along the kids for this cooking and activity book - this woman is a genius! Some of the activities she has for the kids to do can even be crafted into a teacher’s classroom. Page 111, for the July Beach Picnic has a Batik Denim Beach Blanket project whereas you “stamp bleach” a large fern onto the denim in some really groovy designs - your own designs!
As far as the recipes go, I don’t know where to begin - you can literally find something to make in every single chapter - no kidding! I write this review towards the ending of April and Katie Brown’s Marinated Chicken Kebabs with Lemon-Pepper Yogurt Sauce were an absolute hit on the grill!
I urge you to purchase this cook/activity book for yourself and for a friend. In addition I gladly give this a 5-star rating.
