My poor Mom has been sick this whole week after getting dehydrated and dealing with a sinus infection so our time with her has been a little different. But it has forced her three girls (my sister, my sister-in-law and myself) to get in the kitchen and pull off what she has done for many years. We’ve always helped out but she’s always done most of the work and preparation. She had most of the things lined up before she got sick and so we just filled in and pulled it all together because she was too sick to do it. In doing so I think we all realized just how much she does for her family of 19 and how much work is involved.
I only took a few pictures tonight because there was so much going on that it just slipped my mind. Of course there’s always a kids table and the girls loved having their own little place to sit. This is Mom’s two great granddaughters with Sophie in the middle. Mitchell is trying to make them all laugh before he finds his place at the big table.
Mom didn’t feel well but she still came out to be with the family as much as she could. This is Mom with one of her great granddaughters who is cute as pie.
Mitchell was super excited about his bow and arrow and camouflage shirt, hat and special gloves he got. My Dad taught Mitchell how to shoot an adult size bow when he was three years old. By the time he was four he was able to handle it on his own and has been shooting that arrow ever since. Mom got him one of his own this year and he loved it……so much that he just had to go out in the nighttime rain with his Daddy to try it out. Have I mentioned lately that I love that boy’s Daddy? He is a good man!
Sophie was happy about her pink sparkly boots and other girly stuff.
This is my nephew and his new little girl’s outfit from my Mom.
And this is the beef tenderloin my Mom got for us. Mom prepared it and my brother cooked and carved it up for us. My sister decorated it and I took a picture of it. Ha! Yeah, I still don’t know how to decorate food ….that’s why I take pictures like this one so I can pull it out again down the road and copy it. Actually I just wanted to show Mom what it looked like.
We’re looking forward to spending time with Randy’s family too. His parents have been out of town for a funeral but we’ll have our family Christmas party with them and Randy’s sister and her family when the return. Mitchell and Sophie are so excited about seeing their cousin who is just a little over a year old. And we are too. So we have lots more family time coming our way. This whole trip has been so very different than we expected but there are good things that are coming out of it.
