Children’s Book Review: You Are a Gift to the World, by Laura Duksta

Posted Apr 12 2011 4:40pm
If you lack the words to tell your child just how much you love him or her, I’ve got the perfect book to express it: You Are a Gift to the World , by Laura Duksta. Through charming rhyme and illustrations, children will have no doubt about how special they are when you share this book with them. For instance, this book tells them, “You are the best gift that I have ever received. You’re a one-of-a-kind YOU better than I could have ever believed.” And, “Your smile lights up my life like a sun’s golden ray. Its warmth brightens up my life each and every day.”

And a very cool “bonus” to this book is that it’s actually two books in one! When you flip it over, you find, The World Is a Gift to You. This book shares why the world is a gift to us. For example, “Flowers, plants, and trees all start from tiny seeds. As they grow they help to make the food and air your body needs.” And, “Our oceans are a treasure chest filled with creatures big and small. You’ll find turtles, fish, and whales, and crabs that do the sideways crawl.”

Author Laura Duksta experienced a great deal of bullying and rejection throughout her teen and college years after she lost all of her hair at age eleven. Since then, she has made it her mission to help children feel loved and accepted. Her first book, I Love You More , became a New York Times bestseller, and You Are a Gift to the World is sure to follow. I hope you’ll share your love with your children by reading this very special book with them.
