Children’s Book Review and Giveaway: Forest Has a Song, by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater

Posted Apr 18 2013 2:36pm
This coming Monday is Earth Day, and it’s the perfect time to read stories and books about our natural world. I recently received a lovely picture book for review that parents and children will love to read together. It’s called Forest Has a Song, and it’s a book of poetry by Amy Ludwig VanDerwater. Beautiful illustrations by Robbin Gourley show a young girl and her dog exploring the forest, and the poems describe what they see, such as a

Here’s my favorite poem from the book, which would be great for reading to your children at bedtime
Sleep tightbaby animalsso smallso full of zest.
Burrow in a burrow.Nestle in a nest.Snuggle in a tree trunk.Crawl beneath a stone.Cuddle with a mama.Huddle all alone.Peek out at the sunsetwinking way out west.
You’ll meet the sunwith running fun.It’s night now.Hush now.Rest.
Isn’t that a sweet way to end the day? The poems in Forest Has a Song are all gentle and brief, inviting kids and parents to talk about the sights they might see in a forest and the wonders of our natural world. I hope you’ll pick up a copy of Forest Has a Song to share with your little ones.
