I have always been an outspoken and active advocate for breast cancer awareness. It started with losing my paternal Grandmother to it when my father was just 14 years old. Then when I was 19 years old I found a lump in my own breast. I confided in my nurse practitioner I was seeing and was quickly refereed to the Norma Pfriem Breast Cancer center at Bridgeport Hospital, here in Connecticut. I saw a specialist, and after discussing all of my options, we made the choice to have the lump removed instead of simply biopsied. In the end it was removed, and all turned out well.

Today, on my mothers birthday, I learned that my aunt, the oldest of all 9 sisters in my mothers family has been diagnosed with breast cancer. While the diagnosis comes as a complete shock, it reminds me that again like always, life is just so precious. She is expecting her second grand child in less than 2 months and while everyone should be rejoicing over the new arrival of the 16th great grand child, everyone will undoubtedly be by my aunts side. My only hope is that through all this she will kick that cancers ass and battle on. She is such a strong and amazing woman that I have no doubt she will soldier on like she has through any trials or tribulations in her life.
Remember ladies, no matter how old you are, breast health is important. Make sure you check your own breasts, go for your mammograms, and breast feed! We all know that strongly aids in your risk for breast cancer later on in life.
Any and all prayers would be appreciated, no matter who you pray to.
