Books I Like

How about....a whole list of Books I Like:

The ALA's Top 100 Banned Books List!

Some of my personal favorites include beloved stories I cherished as a child:

• The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (I'm guessing 'n' word plus boy who skips school to go rafting with older man)
  
• Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson (couldn't even tell you!)
  
• A Day No Pigs Would Die by Robert Newton Peck (I loved this book as a child--don't remember too much other than graphic descriptions of pig slaughtering?)
  
• In The Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak (I know the little boy's winky is depicted in a couple of the illustrations. Gasp.)
  
• The Witches by Roald Dahl (Um, I guess, witches?)
  
• To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee (that pesky 'n' word plus rape? WTF? One of the best books EVER written.)
  
• A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein (poems about snakes that eat people and mean siblings? Again, WTF?)
  
• James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl (Huh?)
  
• Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy Blume ( "I must, I must, I must increase my bust!" Worked for me!)
  
• How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell (the demise of earthworms? stupid bets that boys make? )
  

And, of course, not to be outdone:
The Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling: WOOHOO! Bloody Brilliant, as Ron would say.

What in the world?

I must admit to a certain level of disappointment that not one of Ayn Rand's books made it in the Top 100. Either the protestors don't really "get" them or Rand didn't include enough witchcraft to rile them up. (She was notoriously skimpy on the occult references.)

Too bad--they DEFINITELY should be included, if only for the good publicity.
