THINK: The right cut for every child’s face shape.

WHAT IT IS:  The easiest way to determine the perfect style for your child.

It can be tough to find the right cuts for kids, especially since they grow and change so quickly. According to Cozy Friedman, founder of Cozy’s Cuts for Kids and the So Cozy hair care line, the key to the ideal hairstyle is tailoring the cut to your child’s face shape.

“To establish your child’s face shape, start by pulling hair away from the face,” recommends Cozy. “Once hair is pulled back, find the line in your child’s face that is the longest. If it’s horizontal, your child has a round face; if the length is longest vertically, your child has a long or oval shaped face. Finally, if your child’s chin comes to a point, he or she most likely has a heart-shaped face.”

Each face shape is suited to different hairstyles. To find out the perfect cut for your child, just follow Cozy’s simple face shape guide:

  • Round: Full-looking face with a round chin and hairline; widest point is at the cheek and ears.”This is the most common face shape among children,” Cozy reveals. “When choosing a hairstyle for children with a round face, keep the hair long-ideally below the chin. To distract from a round face, part kids’ hair to the side, which gives the impression of a narrower face. Avoid bangs, as they’ll make the face appear rounder.”
  • Oval (Long): Slightly narrower at the jaw line than at the temples, with a gently rounded hairline “This well-balanced face shape is extremely versatile, as it can wear almost any hairstyle,” explains Cozy. “To complement an oval-shaped face, add layers to give hair some depth or go for bangs. When cutting bangs, make sure to keep them wispy, not blunt, since heavier bangs can add weight to an oval face shape.”
  • Heart: Face is wide at the temples and hairline, narrowing to a small Chin “For a heart-shaped face, accentuate the jaw line by cutting hair to the chin to define the child’s features,” Cozy recommends. “The chin length bob is a great hairstyle for a heart-shaped face.”
