I am struggling to give my second baby a Chinese name.
I have decided on the English name: Isabel (yes, I am assuming I get a girl). Now, stuck with the Chinese one.
I only need to think of the 3rd character, because the first is the surname - fixed, the second must follow BIL’s daughter’s, which is 乐.
The thing is, 乐 is very hard to be matched with anything. In Cantonese it also sounds like 落. So, anything that is good alone can be bad in the combination. E.g. 乐姗 can sound like 落山.
Because Isabel’s nickname will be Belle, DH jokingly suggest that we name her ‘ling’, to resemble 铃 as in Bell. Ya, I quite like the idea, and I like the character 灵, which gives me the feeling of 灵气, 灵敏, 灵巧, etc = something very spiritual.
But, if you combine with 乐, then it will sound like 乐龄 ==> Senior Citizen! I can guarantee she will be laughed in her whole life! So, no way I can use ‘ling’ at all.
Any one good at Chinese naming out there can give me some suggestions kah? I have a whole list of 28 choices, but non to my liking. Maybe you can help me to add options to my choice!
