Cooper wrapped up his last day at the day care facility where he spent the last fifteen months. He happens to be eighteen months old today, so some simple math reveals that he’s spent a good bit of his first eighteen months in that facility. When I picked Cooper up this afternoon, there were plenty of good-byes, tears, hugs and kind words. I received a clear message that Cooper will always have a place there if we decide to come back. I’m glad I held it together amidst all of the emotion. Go Paxil!
The change is what we believe to be best for Cooper at this time, but the decision wasn’t easy for us. The staff was phenomenal, and their dedication and love to Cooper was apparent to us every day. The decision to move was based on a couple of factors:
- Proximity of new facility to home
- Slightly lower cost
- The facility is more established and operationally more sound
We know that we may lose some of the things that we liked so much about the previous facility, and may not develop some of the great relationships we had previously. The staff may be a bit more impersonal in their approach to parents and children, but we hope the trade-off won’t be too drastic.
I failed to mention the most important person that will be affected by this change. My hope is that Cooper will like his new facility and staff. I do worry about leaving him in a new place full of unknown faces, but I’m optimistic that he will adjust quickly. We shall find out Monday morning!
