8 things meme

Posted Aug 26 2008 4:39pm
First of all, thanks again all for your kind and reassuring words regarding my last post. I have to say, I've stressed myself out about it so much that I haven't been able to focus on much else.

That's why I'm so thankful that Stella tagged me with this meme a coupla days ago. Just filling in a lil' survey requires much less effort than actually putting together a thoughtful post.

So...the 8 Things Meme

8 Things I Am Passionate About:

1.) Raising strong, confident children who are not afraid to speak their minds, question authority (yup, I'll be regretting this statement in about 10 years), and stand up for their beliefs.

2.) The environment. I may not be the 'greenest' person out there, but I try my best and am taking strides in the right direction.

3.) Honesty. Honesty is always the best policy (with a few exceptions). I whole-heartedly believe honesty leads to understanding, understanding to acceptance, and so on and so forth.

4.) Blogging. A new found passion of mine that I'm sure will be a part of my life for many, many years to come. I know that all of you will be just itching to read my thoughts on the wonders of adult diapers when I am an 80 year old blogging great-grandma.

5.) Universal health care. I haven't yet posted about my struggles with the state health care system. My experiences have opened my eyes to how truly run-down the system is and how desperately in need of health care reform we are.

6.) Eating organic. Way too much shit is in the food we eat and in the food we feed our children.

7.) Learning. I am on a constant quest for more knowledge. I love to learn and watch the Discovery Channel regularly. I'd like to foster this love of learning in my children also which is why...

8.) I'm passionate about having a good, strong education system. My children will be in school before long. This scares the shit out of me, mostly because the schools in my area are C.R.A.P. Unacceptable. I shouldn't have to worry about moving into a town with a better school district, the towns, and the government in general, should be trying their hardest to make sure every town, in every state has a great school system. Period.

8 Things I Want To Do Before I Die:

1.) Go to Disneyland with the kiddos. I've never been. I'm pretty sure I will enjoy it more than they will.

2.) Drive cross country with the kiddos. There are so many wonderful things that I still haven't seen, right here on US soil. The Grand Canyon...The Alamo...South Dakota (hehe...I dunno, I've just always wanted to see South Dakota).

3.) Go on a cruise. Just me, hubby, an all you can eat buffet, and the open ocean...ahhhh, beautiful.

4.) Tour Europe. The major cities really. I'm dying to see Paris, Milan, Barcelona, Rome, etc, etc.

5.) Go skydiving. I must go skydiving before I get too old and I lose my nerve. I won't bungee jump, I have some strange fear of the bungee cord strangling me, but skydive...definitely.

6.) Be an extra in a movie. Come on! How cool would that be?! I'd be all....ok, ok, here I come, ready...THAT'S ME, THAT'S ME, RIGHT THERE BEHIND THE TELEPHONE POLL!!

7.) Go to Cuba. Hubby is Cuban. There is so much beauty there, hidden beneath it's poverty stricken people and ridiculously evil leaders. I would love to go there and experience a piece of my hubby's (and my children's) heritage.

8.) Run for President. Yup, president. President LunaNik...I like the sound of that! No seriously, I really do want to run for president. I'm not delusional, I don't think I'll actually win. But, maybe politicians would be more likely to listen to what citizens are saying if one of those citizens actually said Fuck it...if you can't fix our country's problems, then let me try. First order of business, paint the White House black and affix the official Secrets header on the front gate.

8 Things I Say Often:

1.) I drop the f-bomb way too often. Seriously. Way. Too. Often.

2.) Seriously...

3.) OMG . My oldest has recently started saying OMG alot. It's soooo cute! She'll walk into the living room after her sister has just DESTROYED it and say OMG...look at the mess !

4.) I made dinner, but you may not want to eat it because...

5.) I don't know . This is my knee-jerk reaction to every question my hubby asks. It drives him crazy. hehehe

6.) Stop it, Pookie!!! Pookie is my cat. I love her, I really do. But, she has this really annoying habit of following me around and meowing really, really loudly. I say "Stop it, Pookie" so much that now, when L hears Pookie meowing she puts her hands on her hips and yells STOP POOKIE!

7.) Are you ok? Said every day, multiple times a day. Usually after my little one trips over her own feet or my oldest falls off of something she shouldn't be climbing on in the first place.

8.) What did you do??? I don't think this needs an explanation...if you have kids, you've said this a lot too.

8 Books I Have Read Recently

1.) Shattered Dreams by Irene Spencer: An incredible true story about a woman's escape from polygamy. Such an interesting read that I got thru the book in two days.

2.) The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls: Another true story about the author's childhood. Fascinating...I highly recommend this book.

3.) How to Make Love Like a Porn Star...A Cautionary Tale by Jenna Jameson: A biography. I was expecting a lot from this book. It got great reviews. And though I enjoyed it, I was a bit disappointed. I wanted to like Jenna, I really did. I wanted this book to prove that she was different, but it just proved that she wasn't. But, the pictures, wow...there's some really great glam shots in this book.

4.) Naked by David Sedaris: Funny. Hysterically, laugh out loud, blow snot out your nose, funny. If you've never read anything by David Sedaris, I suggest you do, immediately.

5.) The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold: A young girl watches from heaven as her family grieves for her and tries to catch her killer. Heart-wrenching.

6.) Lovers and Players by Jackie Collins: Pure, wonderful smut as only Jackie Collins can do.

7.) Rule of the Bone by Russell Banks: An incredible read that follows the adventures of an teenage boy. Light hearted and fun.

8.) A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn: History as it really happened. Not the sugar coated stuff they teach in school. An eye-opener and a must read for anyone that loves history or is interested in knowing the truth.

8 Songs I Could Listen To Over And Over

Ummm, only 8, huh...this is hard because I listen to a lot of music...

1.) My Confession by OTEP

2.) Deformography by Marilyn Manson

3.) Criminal by Fiona Apple

4.) Five to One by the Doors

5.) Hot Kiss by Juliette and the Licks

6.) Ain't No Sunshine by Van Morrison

7.) Spin Spin Sugar by Sneaker Pimps

8.) Seeing Things by The Black Crowes

8 Things That Attract Me To My Best Friends

1.) A non-judgemental attitude. Nothin I hate more than chicks with the mentality of a teenager in a small town.

2.) Honesty. If I ask your opinion, it's because I want YOUR opinion, not mine regurgitated.

3.) A sense of humor as filthy as mine.

4.) Fun. My best friends all know how to have a really good time.

5.) Intelligence. I want to be able to fight debate with them sometimes...not just discuss our favorite brand of lip gloss.

6.) Loyalty. I have their back, it's nice to know that they have mine.

7.) That weird sisterly bond. I love that I can not talk to them for a while, but when I do, it's like we haven't missed a beat.

8.) Good listening skills. My friends actually listen...a skill that a surprising amount of people lack.

I tag April and Sports Mama to give this meme a try. I don't want to tag too many people because I know a bunch of us read each others blogs and I want to give others a chance to pass on the linky love.

Sometime in the near future I'm going to hold a little book give-away so that I can pass on some of my library to my virtual neighbors. So don't just run out and buy the books I've recommended just yet...you may win them later!
