I finally got to meet my secondary midwife (we'll call her JS) today and I LOVE her!!! She's as amazing as JM! I'm especially excited about my delivery now because I know that either she or JM will be delivering me no matter what. Yeayyyyyy! She recommended Prilosec OTC for the heartburn. She knows that I'm a bit of a hippee about taking medication when I'm pregnant, but she said that since I'm getting heartburn every day, (sometimes multiple times a day) she wants me to take something that will help to control it to prevent esophageal erosion.
She also told me to start working on a birth plan. My previous OB laughed at me when I mentioned making a birth plan because she said that at the end of the day, my care would be in her hands, so she'd relay medical instructions to the proper people. JS told me the complete opposite and said that even though birth plans aren't always followed word-for-word, they are helpful in the sense that whoever is helping her or JM will know what I want or don't want prior to even coming in the room. They'll know that I want to go completely unmedicated and that I want to use the birthing ball and labor in the tub. She said it's nice to have a birth plan so that when I'm in labor I'm not having to answer the same questions 10 different times to different nurses or when nurses change shifts. I love that. I never considered it with Franky but I'm looking forward to sitting down and writing one out this time around.
I'm measuring at 27 weeks, which is perfect. I'm not used to measuring right on since I was consistently 4-6 weeks ahead with Franky starting at 20 weeks. I'll have a growth scan at 38 weeks anyway, just to see how Marija is measuring. Because of how big Franky was, my midwives want to be prepared, although having another big baby won't be a reason for not attempting a VBAC. It's funny because I had a growth scan at 32 weeks with Franky and the ultrasound tech was alarmed and said that she would recommend moving my due date up by a few weeks because Franky was already measuring at 38 weeks. My OB brushed it off and said that those scans aren't always accurate. Really? That's why I had a 10.5 lb baby, right? I know I say it every time, but I'm sooooooooo happy with my decision to see a midwife. My care is so different this time around and I'm loving every minute of it. Marija's heartbeat was loud and strong and I love hearing it every time <3 I'm up 2.5 lbs, so that brings me to a total of 5 lbs gained.
I've chosen to continue to be seen every four weeks until 36 weeks rather than being seen every two weeks from this point. At 36 weeks, I'll go in every week, but until then, I'm happy with once a month, especially since the ultrasounds are separate appointments because they're in radiology. My next main appointment is at the beginning of September and I have another ultrasound scheduled in two weeks to check on Marija's heart to see if the EIF is gone. I'm optimistic =) I'm also hoping they'll sneak a peak to make sure she's still a she, lol.
I also had to take the 1 hour glucose tolerance test today. The drink wasn't nearly as nasty as I remember it being and the blood draw was painless. I'm hoping I pass it just so I don't have to take the 3 hour test. That would suck because keeping Franky entertained for that long will be kinda tough. He's really easy to keep busy, but I'd feel bad keeping him in his stroller the whole time. I don't like letting him run around in public places because it makes me nervous. All it takes is one second of looking away and a kidnapper could already be out the door with your child. Call me paranoid, but I'd rather play it safe, you know?
And another non-headless-horseman one =)
P.S. I'm in my third trimester now. I can't believe it! It got here so quick! I felt like my pregnancy dragged on with Franky, but with Marija every time I blink another month has passed. While I'm anxious for her to be here, I'm also enjoying having another 13 weeks to prepare for her arrival. Oh, and guess who started getting hiccups this week?!?! I love it! I used to love when Franky got them and I'm loving it this time around too <3
