It sounds so awful: "morbidly obese." It sounds like I am gonna die. Well there is a reason for that. Being this fat is a serious and literal risk to one's life. And so, not only must I escape from obesity, but first I must escape from MORBID obesity. To be merely "obese" is my first goal. Yes, a goal to be "obese"... So at what point will I no longer be morbidly obese? For this answer I turned to a BMI calculator online and entered my current height and weight. According to the calculator, my current BMI is 43.5. Anything over 40 is MORBIDLY obese. But these points do not convert to pounds. In order to lower my BMI to 40, I must lose 23 pounds and reach 255 pounds. But wait! As I went down the slider I realised that even then I will not be merely "obese", but "SEVERELY obese!" Yes, I must pass from MORBID to SEVERE obesity in order to reach the elusive "obesity." The irony of it all... And then, of course, the question is: at what point will I no longer be severely obese? So down the slider I go...and when my BMI is under 35, I am just "obese." To reach that goal I must weigh 223 pounds! Wow, that sounds skinny at this point! So... lose 23 pounds and I am no longer morbidly obese. Lose another 32 pounds and I am no longer severely obese. For a grand total of 55 pounds I must lose to REACH "obesity." And then, I suppose, I can escape from that as well. When my BMI is under 30, I will be "overweight" instead of obese, and the weight I must reach for this exciting label, is 191 pounds. When my BMI is under 25, I am healthy (159 pounds). How about that? I guess I better get started...
