4 yrs ago had gastric bypass yesterday had a laporoscopy b/c of severe abdomen pain they removed a "staple" is this commmon?

I know that gastric bypasses use ALOT of staples do they just remain in a person forever or how does tht work I was qite surprised that they found and removed a staple after this amount of time
