Trying to watch the news is like going to the funeral of your best friend… heart wrenching and painful. The world is falling apart… has it always been? Or am I noticing because I am no longer a child whose president is Ronald Reagan… and I loved him just because he was the president? I wonder how my children view the United States of America, their president, their country? What will they be heart broken about in 20 years?
I have to go back to work tonight. It really can be a very negative place… it eats at my stomach and no H2-receptor blocker or chalky antacid can touch it. I’m “taking heart” at my work tonight… it’s a gift to be able to make a difference in my job, and yet I can fall into a rut there… of desensitization.
Suffering is all around me. Unemployment is the cancer of where I live right now. The flu has scared most of the mothers I know to death. You wouldn’t believe the number of women who are supporting their families right now. My husband is not the only man staying home with the kids. Hardship. Taking heart for mothers especially today.
The scripture reminds us of a hope that exceeds our pain. "In this world you will have troubles. But TAKE HEART! I have overcome the world." John 16:33
