Some Interesting Things...

Posted Sep 07 2008 2:17am
I'm kind of excited about a couple of little projects I've become involved in recently. Little things, blogging-related things, things that won't take up a great deal of time - because frankly, I don't have a ton of extra time just laying around. But here's the quick version:

An enterprising gal named Sarah had a vision of a group of women chronicling their lives in one photo per day over a one-year period. I've signed on to her 365 Photo Challenge and it ought to be interesting anyway.

A wellness and health related web site guru contacted me a while back to see if I'd like to become a 'featured healthcare blogger' because they liked my writing... and the site is in beta right now, so I won't link yet to the real deal. But stay tuned.

I'm dumbfounded by the ignorant fools who've stubbornly decided to stay in N'awlins despite Gustav's impending doom. We've had several conversations in our house about this, and especially about the last wave of hurricane-flung folk that came our way post-Katrina - and how they bogged down the public services system in several ways. In particular, I remembered my heated exchange with a patient in a waiting room of the ER I was working in at the time as Charge Nurse - a very animated, ambulatory patient in no imminent danger of demise, with back pain - who thought she should be treated before the rest of the people in the waiting room. She was getting louder and louder, whinier and whinier, and after dropping the race card didn't work, she laid out the "But I'm a Katrina survivor." My response: "Ma'am, that was almost two years ago. Have a seat." Good god. Entitlement is one thing, but entitlement mixed with ignorance is another entirely.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... School going well for all the young'uns, and the man and I are about to return to full-time dual employment after a series of vacations, hiati, sabbaticals, whatever you wanna call 'em - so that'll make the pocketbook happy. We had a nice Labor Day weekend, and I'm tired out. Will blog more in a day or two.
