We had a heated discussion 2 days ago at work. The topic? HOMOSEXUALITY. Gays and Lesbians.
It started when I just mentioned to my male colleague that I love my new haircut. It was perfectly done by a gay hairdresser in Bahrain. He then told me that in his country, gays are not respected. They treat them very badly. I asked him why and he said that what they chose to be is not right and not accepted in their religion (Islam). I told him that gays didn’t choose the way they are. Infact, a lot of homosexuals tried to fight being who they are because of the fear of being treated differently and being discreminated against.
He then asked another RN how they treat homosexuals in her country and she basically said the same thing.
It’s sad that until now, in this new millennium, homosexuality is still considered a taboo. What is more sad is the fact that they treat them so badly. Imagine people throwing stones at you just because of your preferred sexuality. One of the RN that was on the discussion even said that if her child becomes gay or lesbian, she would kill him/her.
I argued with them because I want them to understand that it is not the person’s fault if they become who they are. It just happened. Maybe it is not accepted in all religions but we don’t have the RIGHT to take away a person’s life just because they are who they are.
Not all homosexuals are criminals or pedophiles.
They are human beings that needed to be treated as one.
